Trajan`s Arch

  • is a Roman arch of honour
  • was dedicated to the Emperor Trajan
  • was build in 114 A.D. by the architect Apollodor of Damaskus

The Roman Theatre

  • was built between 200 and 210 A.D. by the Emperor Hadrian
  • it has a diameter of 90 metres
  • it could hold 20.000 people

"Rocca dei Rettori"

  • it is a castle which was built during the reign of Pope John XXII in 1321
  • it is modelled after the great fortresses of Carcasonne and Avignon (France)
  • it is located on the site of a demolished Lombard fortress
  • there are three floors:
    • from the ground floor you go down to the dungeon
    • on the 1. floor there is the large hall
    • the 2nd floor and two towers
  • here Alfonso of Aragon prepared the siege of Naples

Hortus Conclusus

  • it is a park dedicated to the sculptor and painter Mimmo Paladino who was born in the area
  • here a number of his works are on public display
